A group of scientists working at the Tufts University School of Engineering has designed a unique Filtering method. The research is primarily inspired by the idea that the technique could help reduce the risk of water-borne disease that invades millions of people worldwide. Beyond the human association, the system is proposed to better environmental remediation, mining, and other industrial and chemical production.
The novel Filtering technology demonstrated by the researchers displays science associated with unique polymer membranes. The team demonstrated how these membranes could separate fluoride from chloride or other electrically charged ions. A significantly unique characteristic advertised is that this system offers twice to amount of selectivity as compared to other Filtering methods.
Extreme and prolonged exposure to the element can lead to fluorosis, which refers to a condition where teeth are weakened with other impacts such as calcified tendons. The ability to monitor and remove excess fluoride from water with the help of a relatively cost-effective Filtering membrane is a promising idea. It is extremely useful in protecting communities from fluorosis, replacing conventional high-pressure filtration.
