Covid-19 Summer Surge in South Florida

South Florida has seen a sharp increase in the coronavirus, and that is currently frightening the experts. Broward and Miami-Dade counties have seen an increase in the positivity rate of more than 5 percent and the positivity rate more than 9 percent in Monroe.

Dr. Aileen Marty, Infectious Disease Specialist, said that they are still witnessing the cases, and they are now rising in their hospitals in Miami-Dade.

They are observing an increase in the cases once again.According to the most recent reports released by the Florida Department of Health, the positivity rate of the newly discovered cases has more than doubled in three weeks, from being at the rate of 3.8% on June 18th to 7.8% on July 2nd.Dr. Bhavarth Shukla, Infectious Disease Specialist, said that the younger folks who have not been vaccinated are where they are observing the spread of the infection the most. Dr. Shukla said that this time of the year plays a vital role in South Florida.

Even for those who have been fully vaccinated, it is possible to still contract and control the spread of the virus. Although the symptoms will be less severe, the health experts say that people need to be a bit mindful.Other factors that lead to the increase of the cases are the different variants of this deadly virus. The more Covid is spreading, the more it is transforming itself. According to the new data by CDC, the Alpha variant is spreading the most, which originated in the United Kingdom.
